Welcome

We welcome you to this friendly and dedicated fellowship of Jewish men, women and children who are our Temple B'nai Israel family.

"An institution is the lengthened shadow of a man," wrote a perceptive scholar. Temple B'nai Israel is the lengthened shadow of the women and men, the lay people and rabbis, the volunteers and donors who vested it with more than a century of love, sacrifice and Jewish devotion.

Our Temple building is not a cathedral nor is it a monument. It is meant to be used, to be worn, and to be adapted to the specific needs of each generation of our members. We value our facility not by how perfectly it is preserved, but by how thoroughly it is used. We hope that you will feel at home in our Temple and use it as much as possible.

Our Temple is more than building and grounds. It is an abundance of activities that reflect the creativity and striving of us all to make the Temple a hub of Jewish living. Beyond that, we believe, our Temple must be acceptable to G-d, in whose name we have dedicated it. We hope that you will be part of this activity that involves equal parts of sociability and learning and spiritual striving.

Our hands are open to you in friendship, our minds are open to ideas. What unites us all is the conviction that just as Jews have preserved our Temples, so have our Temples preserved us as Jews. We invite you to join in this high purpose.

What is Reform?
2007 Epstein Communicate! Award

TBI Honored with Communicate! Award

Temple B’nai Israel was the recipient of a 2007 Epstein Communicate! Award
at the Union for Reform Judaism Biennial Convention recently in San Diego. TBI was one of five congregations in the US recognized for outstanding programming and received a $1,000 grant in programming funds. Temple Member Randall Rozin created the Touchpoints program to help our Board and our congregation recognize how our Temple and our members interact with each other and how each touchpoint is an opportunity to enhance or detract from a member’s experience.

Communicate! founders Paddy and Barry Epstein created this grant in 1994 to encourage congregants to submit their successful programs and ideas to the Communicate! resource bank. This online resource holds over 2,400 programs and ideas that has been created exclusively for Union for Reform Judaism congregations and their members to share their best practices and successful and replicable ideas and programs.
