February Sha'arei Shabbat

Go Green on Sha’arei Shabbat
Feb. 10th

Hey did you know the holiday of Tu Bish'vat occurs during the week? Often called the New Year of the Trees, Tu Bish'vat and Reform Judaism emphasizes the Jewish textual obligation to take care of the planet. Join us on this Sha’arei Shabbat as we learn to live lightly on the Earth, save money and energy at the same time. Here’s what you and your family can expect for the evening:

  • 6:00 p.m. - Sha’arei Shabbat Dinner includes Apricot Chicken, Long Grain and Wild Rice, Italian Green Beans and dessert for $10 per plate. REGISTER/PAY HERE by Wednesday, February 8th.
  • 7:00 p.m. - Worship Services Rabbi Cohen will lead the Shabbat Worship Service along with Music Director Dan Lee.
  • 8:00 p.m. - Sha'arei Shabbat activities includes a panel discussion with Michael Nevard who is heading a 480 acre master planned community project that focuses on the green principles of land design and building. Another panelist is Sammi Donchin, our youth group's Social Action Vice President and a knowledgeable supporter of protecting the environment. Sammi will offer practical recycling ideas and how we can be more green at home, at work and at the Temple.
  • Babysitters will be provided from 6:00-9:00pm.

See you at the Temple for
Sha'arei Shabbat!

Rummage Sale News

Time to clean out the closets!
Sisterhood Rummage Sale is coming

The Sisterhood Rummage Sale is scheduled for Sunday, Feb. 19th (9-4pm) and Monday, Feb. 20th (9-1:30pm).

If you have small items to donate, you can bring the SMALL STUFF NOW to the Temple during office hours. Bring the BIG STUFF after Feb. 5th (like your husband’s recliner) directly to the Henderson Family Activity Center, north circle drive.

We sure could use your help unpacking, picking up furniture, loading a truck as well as help during the sale. Please contact the Temple office if you can volunteer.

WHY DO WE DO THIS EVERY YEAR? Because with the money raised through the rummage sale, the Sisterhood helps pay our ICSS teachers, gives scholarships to our youth and preschool, underwrites most Friday Oneg Shabbats and a host of other important things for our Temple.

Going to Israel

Israel Pilgrimage Dinner
Sunday, February 26th, 6:00pm

Each summer, Temple B'nai Israel sends 10th graders to Israel with the North American Federation of Temple Youth. This once in a lifetime trip is made possible largely because of the Gold Fund and pays for one third of the trip's cost.

By supporting our youth through your participation in the Israel Pilgrimage Fundraiser and Dinner, you can help strengthen our youth's Jewish identity.

MAKE YOUR RESERVATIONS HERE by February 22nd.
